In celebration of February, African American History Month, the Cultural and Linguistic Competency Technical Assistance Team for Children’s Behavioral Health is hosting a webinar entitled – Kujichagulia (Swahili – Self Determination): Effective Strategies in Addressing Trauma in African American Children, Youth and Families. The webinar’s learning objectives are to describe behavioral health disparities/disproportionalities and associated root causes in African American children, youth and families; describe the intersection of historical trauma, racial/ethnic identity development and behavioral health help-seeking behaviors; discuss the integration of faith, spirituality and behavioral health in promoting health and well-being in African American families using the SAFE (Spirituality, and Faith Empowers) curriculum; and discuss trauma-informed, culturally-appropriate, community based and clinical strategies to address resilience and the behavioral health needs of African American of children, youth and families.
