New Blog: We All Need Support and Community

July’s blog centers on the support that we all need – not just families and young people, but also care coordinators, case managers, therapists and family partners, and even managers and administrators. One key source of support is the community formed by people connected to Wraparound. The blog describes how California’s Partnership for Wellbeing Institute – held in June – was a much-needed community-building event.

Bridging the Wraparound Gap with FOCUS

Research continues to demonstrate positive outcomes from using Wraparound for youth with the most intensive needs. But what about families of children and youth with less intensive needs? How can systems of care implement “tiered” care coordination that can be right-sized to any level of intensity? June’s blog focused on tiered care coordination that uses a model called FOCUS to work with families and youth whose needs are complex, but not so intensive as to require a full Wraparound process. FOCUS is consistent with Wraparound values, and integrates evidence-supported practice elements shown to improve engagement and outcomes.

Webinar: Practical Steps to Address Bias, Privilege and Discrimination as a Behavioral Health Professional

Date/Time: August 9, 2024, 2:30pm PT / 5:30pm ET

As behavioral health and mental health agencies aim to provide more access and available supports to diverse communities and people who have historically been oppressed or marginalized, there is a substantial need to understand how to engage with different cultural beliefs and values, and have an awareness of one’s own biases, privilege and recognize where discriminatory practices could take place. This 90-minute webinar will discuss the impact of personal bias, how it impacts the people we serve, and what culturally thoughtful and affirming work can look like as a behavioral health professional.

Online Training: An Introduction to the Ages and Stages Questionnaires(R)

Date/Time: August 14, 2024, 6am PT / 9am ET

This event is an excellent opportunity for professionals in the early childhood mental and behavioral health field to learn about ASQ-3 and ASQ:SE-2, two important developmental screening tools that are widely used in child-serving settings.

Webinar: Managing Challenging Behaviors

Date/Time: August 15, 2024, 7:45am PT / 10:45am ET

Challenging behaviors are a form of communication. Children tend to relay their feelings and needs by acting out rather than explaining. Adults can inadvertently reinforce this pattern by paying close attention to disruptive behaviors while ignoring more desirable ones like playing quietly. This webinar describes ways to promote and reinforce calm and pro-social behaviors while setting effective and practical limits when necessary.

Webinar: Giving Effective Feedback

Date/Time: August 26, 2024, 11:15am PT / 2:15pm ET

Communicating feedback to team members in a way that motivates them to improve can be a difficult challenge. Most people dread feedback and automatically think it will be negative. However, given effectively, feedback can help people grow, which is a key part of the supervisory function. This webinar addresses some practical tools to give effective feedback to your direct reports.

Webinar: Mental Health Impacts of Climate Change

Date/Time: August 29, 2024, 10:30am PT / 1:30pm ET

This presentation will review the ways in which climate change threatens human wellbeing. Bearing in mind the interdependence of mental and physical health, we will start with an overview of health impacts in general. We will then go into more detail about the different ways in which climate change can affect mental health, summarizing recent research on direct, indirect, and vicarious impacts.
