Effectively Integrating the CANS into the Wraparound Process: Joint Statement and Guidance Document

Date/Time: April 30, 2019 / 11am – 12:30pm PT / 2pm – 3:30pm ET

The National Wraparound Initiative (NWI) and Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago have collaborated on a new joint statement and guidance document on how to best use the Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) measure within the Wraparound Wraparound process.

This joint statement and guidance document will be the basis of today's webinar hosted by the TA Network.

Updated: Wraparound Process User's Guide: Handbook for Families

This essential resource for families going through Wraparound, first published in 2006, has been updated by NWI and NWIC to reflect current best practices. This is part of our ongoing effort to ensure our materials are updated periodically. With more than 5,500 copies purchased/downloaded each year, "The Family Guide" is a much-utilized resource. It serves as a tool to help orient families as they as they begin the Wraparound process, and a useful reference throughout the process.

Help NWI and the Wraparound Evaluation and Research Team

The University of Washington Wraparound Evaluation and Research Team (WERT), the "accountability wing" of NWI, is currently conducting a comprehensive review and meta-analysis of controlled outcome studies focused on the Wraparound process. Having conducted a thorough search of peer-reviewed literature, such as journal articles, they are seeking help from colleagues in the field to identify outcome studies published in other formats or outlets, such as newsletters, evaluation reports, or government documents (often referred to as "grey literature") that fit the following criteria:

  1. evaluation of Wraparound that used a control group design (experimental or quasi-experimental);
  2. basic principles of Wraparound were in place to support youth between 3 and 21 years of age;
  3. measured outcomes related to living situation, mental health, youth functioning, and/or youth assets and resiliency.

If you know of and/or have access to any unpublished materials that meet these criteria, we would greatly appreciate it if you would contact our project lead, Jonathan Olson, at jro10@uw.edu with whatever information you may have.
