Child Trends Research: Parenting Knowledge among First-time Parents of Young Children
August 01, 2018 | Emily Taylor
Although research has established the connection between parents’ level of knowledge of child development and higher-quality parent-child interactions, there is little research on what parents know, how they like to receive this information and potential differences across different groups of parents. To address this, Child Trends did a literature review on parenting knowledge and a series of focus groups with parents from diverse racial, ethnic and economic backgrounds. This research brief includes the findings and recommendations to help increase parents’ knowledge of children’s social-emotional development, as well as links to the full literature review and focus group report..
